CONFLICTS AND CRISES

THE SPIRITUAL VALUE OF CONFLICT - By Dale Mckecknie [based on the works of DK/AAB]
We need to see the Principle of Conflict as a spiritual necessity. [DK/AAB]

Apparently, conflict is necessary to help us find and follow the spiritual path. We have to learn to use conflict as an instrument to help us bring about control of the energies and forces we are faced with every day. It is not about controlling other people; it is about control of that which lies within us. If we can learn to merge and master our own inner forces, we can see why conflict is a spiritual necessity and why this law applies to most [and in a higher sense to all - E] conflicts in the world.
And overcoming conflict is why we have chosen to work with this year’s keynote: “Let the ‘bridge of souls and servers’ link the subjective and objective worlds, thus aiding the Christ in his work”. It points to a huge situation of conflict lying ahead for Humanity in the future. It acknowledge the existence of what appears to be two separate kingdoms—a physical kingdom and a spiritual kingdom. At first glance they would appear to be polar opposites. In reality they are not. But human consciousness hasn’t yet caught up with reality. So as more light is shown on the existing fifth kingdom, the kingdom of souls, the differences between the two stand out more boldly.
As we know, it is the divine intention of the Plan of God that these two kingdoms eventually merge into one, just as on a personal level, the soul and personality must eventually integrate and merge into one. that has been the Plan for millions of years on this planet. And if God has anything to say about it, it will happen. it is, after all, His Will. As far back as Lemuria and Atlantis this Plan began to unfold. Driving this evolutionary process is the ever-present agency of the soul. As the refined qualities of the soul began to influence the human mind in those ancient times, it produced a growing sense of responsibility and a developing power if discriminative choice. And because of this ability to choose one value over another or way of life over another, a sense of conflict arose in their consciousness. But the material values became dominant and took control. Eventually, during Atlantis, a great war erupted and the Atlantean civilisation was ended in a great flood.
The influencing factor of the soul is even more present today. Discriminative choice is much stronger and more volatile than in the past; this is due to the volatility of the mind. Conflict in ways of living is present in every society and every nation in the world today. And the other strong factor that is increasing the degree of conflict is of course the ever-present influence of the 4th Ray of Harmony through Conflict. This ray is out of incarnation at the present time, but its presence is always felt. So between the refining influence of the soul—refining discriminative choice—and the impact of the 4th Ray on human consciousness, it’s inevitable that conflict is a daily occurrence in most everyone’s life. And we see it in our current political campaign—if there isn’t a conflict that day, then with the help of a wealthy super PAC, a conflict will be created, just to keep everyone on edge. So it seems that we haven’t yet arrived at the “harmony” part of the 4th Ray of Harmony through Conflict.
Which brings us to the question: What is the value of the Principle of Conflict in the first place? Why do we have to endure conflict at all? The planetary Logos must have something in mind when He ties humanity to the 4th Ray of Harmony through Conflict. It seems that the only way for humanity to produce harmony is through the painful process of conflict. Perhaps conflict is inevitable given that humanity has had to emerge and evolve up through the animal and lower human stages in consciousness. Conflict seems to help develop the personal ego, a necessary stage in human evolution because out of the constant pain of conflict arises a distaste of it and a desire to avoid it and find a more harmonious approach. This is when the higher self, or soul, begins to exert more influence in the choices to be made, leading to a willingness to transcend conflict and move to a new path of harmony. Conflict has its uses up to a point, but beyond that point, the method must be left behind. The little selfish ego must give way to the application of universal love and goodwill.
Did you ever stoped to wonder what the world would be like if we didn’t have to endure conflict at all? Would daily life be always peaceful? Would we all agree to just get along and go along with whatever happens to avoid any nasty conflict? If that were the case, probably evolution would have stopped long ago; we’d still be back in the animal stage. It seems that life on this planet must endure a certain degree of conflict and suffering. Planet Earth is after all, labelled the School of Painful Endeavour. And universal Monads may come to this Planet in order to gain valuable experience in the process of dealing with painful conflict as life evolves up through dense material substance. Substance which we are told is already “tinged with karma”, incurred during the previous solar system. Now it is part of our karma, and we are here to serve the planetary Logos and to bring a more refined sense of balance to the substance of Earth. Can you wrap your mind around that whole concept? It should help us to see the purpose of conflict in a different light.
Now of course all the little conflicts we experience every day in the world are nothing compared to the momentous conflict of bringing forth a new kingdom in nature. We are so locked into our human creation that it’s hard to even imagine of what the fifth kingdom will look like.  And yet it lies within us, waiting to be revealed. But the more light is shone on this inner kingdom of the soul, the more that conflict arises. All disciples stepping onto the path feel the increase in pressure of the light. As they try to measure up to the demands of the path, the conflict increases and they struggle to achieve liberation from these painful situations.
This relatively small number of disciples in the world today can be seen as a microcosmic group working through this painful process which the mass of humanity will also have to undergo eventually if the 4th  and 5th kingdoms will ever merge into one. the main thing that a discipleship group must do today is to find and hold that point of spiritual tension—a synthetic point of “focused immovable Will” which will reveal the path to liberation. Working from this point of tension where all the forces of the soul-infused personality are gathered, the Tibetan offers this piece of advice:
Let each disciple and all groups of disciples develop the ability to think sanely, with right orientation and a broad point of view; let them think truly, evading no issues, but preserving always a calm, dispassionate and loving understanding; let them demonstrate in their environment the qualities which will establish right human relations and show on a small scale the behaviour which will some day characterise enlightened humanity; let them not be discouraged, but let them hold firmly to the conviction of the inevitable spiritual destiny of humanity; let them realise practically that "the souls of men are one" and learn to look beyond the immediate outer seeming to the inner (and sometimes remote) spiritual consciousness; let them know that the present world conflict will be terminated.

The perfect outcome of the conflict will necessarily be lacking, for perfection is not yet possible to man; nevertheless, a situation can be brought about which will permit the return of the Christ into objective relation with mankind, and which will enable Him to set about His task of resurrecting the human spirit, out of the tomb of materialism into the clear light of spiritual perception.  For this, all men must work. [THE RAYS AND THE INITIATIONS, p638]
So, if perfection is not possible for humanity at the present time, then we as a group should at least strive to achieve what is possible now. If we try to understand the real value of the Principle of Conflict and can apply it to our own lives, we, as a group, will be making real progress. Hopefully, by the time the Christ makes His appearance in the world, this group will be serving as a vibrant station of radiant light. We are not there yet, but our spiritual intention is on a true course.
Conflict is so basic to human life on earth; we can’t avoid it. It’s a principle that is “latent in every atom of substance”. It is inherent in the very substance of our bodies but we are also now born with an increasingly refined controlling mechanism—the soul-infused mind. We don’t have to let conflict control the way we think, feel and act. The soul-illumined mind gives us the power to evaluate the true nature of the conflict, and to see that deep within the conflicting forces lies the path to harmony. This is why conflict is a spiritual necessity, because once we have learned how to step back and control those opposing forces, we can then set foot onto the spiritual path to harmony and liberation.
